An excerpt from the 2017 NRHA Reiner
From the January 2017 NRHA Reiner Wendy Lind wrote, “The very next horse in the ring, Hip #1002, brought another Sale high bid of $31,000. The fancy yearling colt named Im Miffin You stood out in the crowd with his striking bay roan color. The colt was consigned by Heritage Farms of Farr West, Utah, who stands his sire, Jerry Lees Surprise (Surprise Enterprise x Mizzen Topsail). The winning bidder was Brad Eaves, also of Utah. Jerry Lees Surprise, a 1991 bay stallion whose show career spanned 10 years, first made the NRHA Finals with NRHA Hall of Fame rider Doug Milholland, who piloted the stallion to third place at the 1995 Open Derby. His biggest win came a year later when he won the 1996 NRHA Open Derby with NRHA Two Million Dollar Rider, Todd Bergen and now has LTE of $44,599. As a sire, Jerry Lees Surprise has proven to really shine, with a relatively limited number offspring earning over $627,912.
Im Miffin You’s new owners, Brad and Liz Eaves, are new to the reining industry. The young couple, friends with Heritage Farm’s resident trainer, NRHA Professional Preston Kent and his wife Lisa, are owners of Staghead Designs, a successful wedding ring design company started by Brad’s initial design. Preston, who has been riding the roan colt’s 2-year-old full sister, was grateful to be headed home with Im Miffin You in his trailer. “I really like this colt’s sister; she has tremendous talent and a great mind,” said Preston. “I had been trying to get other clients to buy this colt before he was consigned to the sale, but nobody pulled the trigger. So I’m really grateful that Brad and Liz did, and l’m really looking forward to riding him.”
